FlickPick uses a Tournament Tree with Replacement algorithm to find your Top 10 films with the fewest possible comparisons. It is the engineering-optimal solution for noiseless pairwise selection.
All films are placed as leaves of a complete binary tree. Adjacent films compete head-to-head, and winners advance upward. After N−1 matchups, the root holds your #1 film.
The champion is removed, and the path from its leaf to the root is re-evaluated. Each subsequent rank requires at most ⌈log₂N⌉ additional comparisons. The total is (N−1) + (K−1) × ⌈log₂N⌉.
For N=200 and K=10, you need only ~271 matchups — 85% fewer than fully sorting all films. This is the best achievable in the pairwise comparison model without noise.
